William Madison "Matt" Wallace
Mr. William Madison "Matt" Wallace, age 90, formerly of Savannah, passed away in Griffin, Georgia, on November 26, 2013. The youngest of three children, he was born on July 16, 1923 in Chester, South Carolina to Leland and Edna Wallace. He moved to Savannah at age 12 and attended Savannah High School and Armstrong State College. He served in the US Armed Forces in Europe during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After being wounded for the second time, he was honorably discharged in August of 1945 and returned to Savannah. He married Harriet Louneal Walton of Savannah in 1951, and they had two children. Two years after Harriet died in 1980, he married Thelma Steckel of Lilburn, GA, and they enjoyed their life together in Savannah until 2008, when they moved to Griffin. Mr. Wallace was a long-time employee of Westinghouse Electric Supply Company in Savannah before retiring in 1982. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Savannah Golf Club prior to moving to Griffin.

Mr. Wallace was predeceased by his parents, his brother, James Leland Wallace, his sister, Elizabeth Wallace Armstrong, and his first wife, Harriet Wallace. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Wallace; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Elizabeth Wallace of Tuscaloosa, AL; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jim Smith of Griffin; four grandchildren, Jennifer Wallace of Brevard, NC, Wesley and Bethany Wallace of Madison, AL, Hallie Smith of Griffin, and Thomas Smith of Griffin; and one great-grandson, Ezra Wallace of Madison. Mr. Wallace is also survived by five step-children; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and several nephews.

Graveside Service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2013 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
